Opposites Attract… but what happens when they start to repel?

I married my complete opposite. He’s more introverted than extroverted, totally about the five senses while I’m all about the sixth sense. He needs a tremendous amount of data for even the smallest decisions where I rely first on gut feel. And, he’s a real get’r done type of guy where I find it easier to relax. That last one is a real challenge on vacation!

In so many ways our opposing approaches to life make for better decisions and problem solving in the long run but far more often they cause a clash in the process. I continue to learn how to accept him and how he views the world (albeit an imperfect practice on my part) and I have learned how to feel okay about my approach, less defensive (again, imperfect but getting better.) When he needs a lot of details, I have learned it is not my job to supply them but to allow time for him to gather them. He has learned that when I have a gut feel about something, it is important information for me even if he doesn’t see it as data. This is not just about marriage though. This happens with co-workers, friends, relatives.

This all boils down to honoring the strengths and differences of the other person while recognizing the same in yourself. When you can do that, it leads to a greater sense of control in your life. That is one way hypnotherapy can be so helpful. It allows you to take a step back and look at situations from a curious stance, making room for new considerations on long playing stories in your mind.

So, what is that story that plays in your head that, with a little change in perspective, could help you live a happier and more fulfilled life? If you’d like to know more about how hypnotherapy works and if it is right for you, you are welcome to schedule a free consultation on my website.
