This Christmas, my whole family will be together. The tarot deck captures this time as the Ten of Cups, a full and happy gathering of people I love. We’ll travel back east to be joined by my mother, my siblings, our children and our children’s children. This year, (almost) everyone will be together and we are all very excited.
There will be noise, complaints, crazy recollections, and gratitude. There will be sharing, caring, and joy. We will focus on our shared values of family, kindness, and acceptance; a sense of respect for this rare time of coming together.
I am also reminded that this is a very difficult time for many people. Their holiday might be more like the Ten of Cups reversed. They may feel unsupported, uninvited, or uninspired to spend time with family or friends. To them I urge this heart mediation.
Close your eyes and picture your heart as a beautiful green glowing energy that reflects health and balance with nature. See your heart as the source of connection to other people and situations. Now picture placing a soft, porous cloth around your heart. You decide the type of fabric and size of the holes as well as what can fit through and what cannot. See it let in love, appreciation, perspective. Deflect disrespect, unloving ways, or any other negative energies. You are in control of your heart. See yourself spending time with those you truly love or remembering loved ones who have passed. Let their memory bring you joy and remind you of how much you belong in their hearts.
For those who feel disconnected, consider who might you commit to for this one day. Whose company brings you comfort and maybe even a little joy? Who could benefit from your presence? For whom might you be the comfort? The joy?
Whether you are with your large family like me or with only a few or even by yourself, there will be joys and stress, giving and taking, all for just this one day. My wish for you is ten cups overflowing with love and glad tidings.
Happiest of holidays to one and all.
