Western medicine has trained us that the things that cause diseases are viruses or bacteria and that pharmaceuticals are the only way to cure it. An acquaintance, “Sue,” developed encephalitis while working as a physician assistant. It was debilitating and caused her to have to leave her job. It is important to add that some time before that, her supervisor asked that she not do energy healing work with her patients because it took too long. While recovering, Sue sat in meditation and asked Spirit to reveal why she had this disease. The answer was clear: Sue was a gifted healer that worked from the heart, yet her job required that she do only brain centered work. Since encephalitis is an intense inflammation of the brain, her illness made sense. While her brain wanted to rest and her heart wanted to lead. Rather than returning to her old job, Sue decided to pursue her profession as an energy healer and within months the encephalitis was gone.

When I was working outside of my passions and allowed the outside world to dictate my life, my stomach attacked me. Not all at once but steadily until it could no longer be ignored. My solar plexus chakra was screaming for me to step into my personal power. To take control. I didn’t listen until it became life threatening. Once I paid attention and focused on healing myself by changing my life it was easy for me to see two things: I caused it.  I cured it.

It is amazing to me how much of illness we allow. The power of the mind is so great we can make ourselves ill or well. The secret is to ask “how is this illness serving me?” When I first heard that I was LIVID! “How can you blame me? I’m the victim.” Now I get it. By being the victim of illness and depression, I let myself off the hook for the state of my life. I didn’t get better until I put myself back on the hook and took responsibility for my life. I changed my environment, my work, and even some relationships. I spoke my truth first to me and then to others.

Our beliefs that we are somehow trapped or there is reward in being a martyr for a cause so often lead to illness and unhappy scenarios. They are an abdication of our personal responsibility to ourselves. The first step to taking control of our lives is to change our thoughts.

As a hypnotherapist, I do not diagnose, cure or heal. Yet, I can help you take a new look at what thoughts do you hold true that can cause you to be ill or otherwise unhappy. Once you are able to see a new way to consider your situation, you can begin the healing process and take control of your life the way Sue did. The way I did. If you are experiencing feelings of victimhood, loss of personal power or illness due to what seem like external conditions, hypnotherapy can help.
